When Life Feels Like a Blur

It’s not like I didn’t know.  Parents, older siblings, friends, mentors—really anyone—have told me that life flashes before my eyes.  I often find myself wishing life would just slow down.  It is beyond me that I’m almost halfway done with college, that this time last year I was preparing for a summer in Europe, that two years ago was my senior spring break in Disney World. The list goes on, and I’m sure you lose your breath looking at the one year marks for your past several years.  Life can be a blur and make us feel out of...

Diana Stegall on French History and Travel

Strolling along the Seine and savoring a croissant buttered with Nutella in Paris is a dream for many. But Diana Stegall made her hope of living in Paris a reality.  Her love of France budded during her study abroad experience in 2009 as a “googly-eyed” college girl with dreams of the Eiffel Tower. But this love went deeper than most women with only a Pinterest board devoted to this sophisticated country; in 2013, she started a French history podcast called The Land of Desire.  I interviewed Diana about her time in France and why history deepens your travel experiences....

5 Blogging Tools that are Worth the Investment

College and full bank accounts are most definitely mutually exclusive.  There have been times when I’ve had to send all my Venmo balance to my bank account to pay bills.  I even had a friend who ate her entire meal at a restaurant, and as the waitress came to the table, my friend opened the bill and proceeded to tell the waitress that she needed to check her account to make sure she had enough money!  (She did but barely—ha!) Whether you’re in college or not, you probably like money, especially when you have a lot of it.  But...

    Round Trip Roundup: FEBRUARY

The fact that I started drafting on the last day of the month might give you a clue that I’ve been beyond swamped.  And even when I looked back, the last 28 days just seem like a random slew of events.  It’s been such a sweet month with many firsts, but at the same time, it’s a sensory overload.  My friend Cate calls it vulnerability hangover when you’ve been pouring yourself and your heart out day in and day out.  But this is me trying to boil my month down into my top 5: 1. Unstructured quality time is...

    Round Trip Roundup: JANUARY

This month was a whirlwind to say the least.  From staying in Atlanta for a hot sec’ to living it up in New York City, I didn’t have many moments to spare.  I’m honestly out of breath thinking about everything I did this month!  That being said, here is my top 5 for the month: 1. Blitz of a trip to Atlanta It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Atlanta—think single digit age!  Even though I only spent 48 hours in Atlanta for a conference, I enjoyed exploring the city on New Year’s Day, but one thing...

    Round Trip Roundup: DECEMBER

“How am I supposed to slow it down so I can figure out who I am?”  This Judah & the Lion lyric resonates with me greatly looking back on this past month, semester and year overall.  It’s true what they say about life getting faster the older you get.  Here’s a quick recap on the month of December with my top 5 highlights: This post includes affiliate links, which means I earn a small commission from items purchased through included links.  All opinions are my own. 1. Los Angeles trip I love traveling solo, with friends and the whole...

When Your Year Wasn’t What You’d Hoped For

Think about where you were 365 days ago.  When I think about where I was one year ago, the wind gets knocked out of me; that person just seems so much younger, more inexperienced and less mature—and it’s true.  Reflecting on this year is quite the workout.  I lived in Toulouse, France for the summer and published a book.  I had a slumber party in a French castle.  I explored idyllic French villages, coastal Slovenian towns and my own home state in the great Midwest—yeehaw. But if you’re anything like me, it’s easy to let the incredible things fade...

    Round Trip Roundup: NOVEMBER

This was a big month.  I published a book about travel on Amazon, and Round Trip is coming up on her 3rd year of existence!  It’s been quite the ride, but I have a grocery list of upcoming adventures.  Here’s a look at my top 5 for the month: 1. Girls’ Weekend in Kansas City Let’s be real—girl time and brunch truly cure a multitude of ails.  This weekend was short but sweet with a sweep of some of KC’s gems like the Liberty Memorial.  Post to come on our weekend adventures! 2. I wrote a flippin’ book! This...

    The Story Behind Round Trip

I remember the page-long list of blog title ideas I rattled off sitting on the carpet in my older sister’s room.  I’d read off some, and soon enough Taylor said, “Stop.  Round Trip, I like the ring of that.”  And a baby was born—my blog baby was born.  (Motherhood gets to ya, man…)  And in that moment, I could have never envisioned the future for this nook on the world wide web. Three years later, she’s still chugging along.  In this time, I’ve grown my readership, social media and brand partnerships.  And my proudest accomplishment: publishing a book on...
