    Round Trip Roundup: JANUARY

New year, new me, eh?  Well, yes and no.  In my post on New Year’s Resolutions, I focus on the point that personal growth can’t be measured in tangible increments.  And looking forward for Round Trip this year, I’ll be doing a roundup of new things I’ve tried during the month.  So, yes, new things, but I’m still Kristin.  And we’re taking it one day at a time.  As for January, here are some of my favorite things: Ban.do Luggage Tag and Passport Cover – Feeling glamorous when you travel isn’t a given.  Long flights mean dry skin and...

    Liebster Award

I have this dream of wearing a beautiful ball gown, strutting my stuff into a big fancy room and naturally, I’d be receiving an award, right?!  I may never get a nomination for an Oscar, Emmy or Golden Globe because heaven knows I hit my peak starring in the 6th grade musical.  BUT there are a plethora of other awards out there.  Phew!  And I’m excited to announce that I’ve been nominated for the Liebster Award for blogging.  I would like to give a big shoutout and thank you to Lottie Flint for nominating me.  Her voice and gorgeous...

Understanding Growth in Retrospect by Round Trip Travel

    Understanding Personal Growth in Retrospect

Nobody likes a long, stuffy car ride.  Or a five-hour layover in the Denver airport because your dad had to return the rental car before noon so as not to be charged for another day (sorry, Dad, but I’m forever bitter).  In these moments, you may be stir crazy, frustrated and ready to just arrive already.  And the second you hop out of the car or step off the plane, the not-so-enjoyable journey fades to black in a blink.  It’s not hard to agree with this, but when this concept applies to pain and growth, it’s all too easy to...

To Those Sick of New Year’s Resolutions

You’ve already pledged to work out five times a week.  And promised yourself you’d eat salad one meal each day.  That you’d get up 30 minutes earlier.  Maybe that you’d read one book each month.  You’ve lived 20+ years and realized there’s literally nothing new about New Year’s Resolutions.  You follow through for maybe two weeks—heck, even a month if you’re feeling ambitious.  But you end up throwing in the towel and deciding not to hold your breath till the next New Year’s comes around.  If this describes you in any capacity, this post is for you. Okay, we’ve...

    When Traditions Fail Us

Some things never change.  The tree always goes up the day after Thanksgiving while Frosty, Frosty Returns and A Charlie Brown play in the background.  Christmas Eve is always with Mom’s side of the family.  I can’t remember a Christmas morning without pancakes doused in maple syrup complemented by a glass of grape juice.  Even beyond the holidays, traditions run our lives whether we acknowledge it or not.  Did I even go to Starbucks if I didn’t snap a pic for My Story?  And if Abby and I are watching FRIENDS, there will be spoons of peanut butter.  (Don’t ask...

6 Things I Didn’t Know Before Starting A Travel Blog

Two whole years.  I still can’t believe I started my WordPress blog two years ago on December 1.  No, I haven’t sold all my possessions (which would really only be a phone and a laptop) or stormed out of my 9-5 office job to travel the world, but I have learned a thing or two in these several years. I didn’t know I’d go on to create an online travel budgeting course with more than 2,300 students enrolled and create a video series to help new bloggers set themselves up for success. I didn’t know I would look at...

7 Gift Ideas for the Traveler

Eep!  Christmas is just around the corner, and I cannot wait to make Muddie Buddies, watch Elf and Eloise at Christmastime and find the perfect gifts for family and friends.  While I do love scouring the Internet and aisles of Target to find presents for the gal pals and sibs, it’s really tough when you have NO idea what to get for them.  (This is a warm s/o to my dad for being impossible to shop for because he already has a coffeemaker and workout clothes.)  But if you’ve been searching high and low for the traveler in your life, look...

4 Lessons I Learned from Travel

I don’t know many people who never dream of escaping to the beach or cuddling up with a good book in the mountains every once in awhile.  The jury’s out: vacation is fun.  Duh.  And even though most of us have had the opportunity to get out and see some part of the world (even if it’s just a few hours from home), there’s always something new to learn.  With travel becoming a bigger priority in my life recently, I’d like to share some things I’ve learned beyond what to pack and where to stay. Travel changes you. Hi, my name...

Why A Picture is Worth a Thousand Lies

I can’t think of many people who hate the holidays, but I know almost no one who enjoyed taking the family Christmas card.  Ever.  Just one more, kids.  Here, let me just lick my finger and get that random smudge off your face (#ew).  JUST SIT STILL ALREADY AND LOOK LIKE YOU LOVE EACH OTHER.  I’m confident that I’m not alone.  By the end of the session, you can’t be more ready to go back to school or work, stop putting your arms around your siblings and get out of this ridiculous, itchy outfit.  But the card sent out...
