Where to Travel Based on Your Enneagram Type

No traveler is alike, and not every trip is suited to every individual. I’m obsessed with personality tests like the Enneagram, which break down people by their motivations and fears. I’m no social scientist, but I love to travel and connecting people with places I love for very different reasons. We’re all wired differently, and the great thing about this planet is there’s something for everyone. Based on your Enneagram type, here’s where you should travel this year and why:

Enneagram Type 1 // Rome

Justice and morality are important to you, and you’re always thinking about what’s the right thing to do and how to make things better. Rich in history and religion, Rome has long influenced the world far beyond Italy and even Europe. Head over to Vatican City to explore St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museum to see the handiwork of Michelangelo. In the Eternal City, you can explore the architectural beauty and ancient glory of Romans — all with gelato in hand.

Enneagram Type 2 // Dallas

You have a big heart and like helping people, which is why you need to travel to Dallas. You’ll fit right in with the southern hospitality mentality, and whether it’s tasting some authentic Tex-Mex cuisine or chatting with local artisans at the farmers market, you’ll enjoy some of those good simple pleasures in life like sharing a meal with friends or family.

Enneagram Type 3 // Paris

I get it: you’re a go-getter. The world is at your fingertips, and you’ve got plans to see all of it. With its vast art scene to its exquisite cuisine, Paris is a great place to start. Stroll through the Louvre, head up the Eiffel Tower, munch on macarons, flip through some classics at famed bookshop Shakespeare and Company. Heck, I did all this in one day, and you can, too. If you have time and an affinity for castles (who doesn’t?), plan a day trip to nearby Versailles.

Enneagram Type 4 // New York

You do you, that’s your mantra, and nothing is going to change your way. You crave to be special and significant and admire that in others, which is why you should head to New York City next. The City That Never Sleeps screams individualism from its expansive art collections at the Met to its limitless cuisine options, and you’ll fit right in. Catch a taping of a late night show or a Broadway showing, shop some of the best haute couture, take a stroll through Central Park. Boredom just isn’t an option!

Enneagram Type 5 // Prague

Being the investigator that you are, you seek to understand, to know the ins and outs. With its fascinating history, Prague is the spot to explore. This Czech city has lived under Nazi occupation and communism and has so much history to uncover. From its expansive Jewish Quarter to its stained glass cathedral, you’ll have plenty to dig into. And don’t forget to try a trdnelník pastry because I know you won’t regret it.

Enneagram Type 6 // Orlando

Being the loyal friend you are, you enjoy feeling connected with those close to you. You crave community, which is why Orlando should be on your bucket list. From Disney World to Universal Studios, this spot allows you to soak up the sun as well as some quality time with those closest to you. From enjoying each other’s company in the lines to screaming all the way down Splash Mountain, you’ll be transported to those simpler, childlike times.

Enneagram Type 7 // Barcelona

Spontaneity and just a darn good time are the bread and butter of your life, and that’s why Barcelona should be on your bucket list. The slower European way of life will tickle your fancy, and whether lounging at the beach or staying out all night trying new cuisine and drinks, the good times will be rolling. La Boqueria better be on your itinerary because you’ll eat the lively atmosphere and all the food right up.

Enneagram Type 8 // Brussels

Being the challenger you are, you like to push the envelope, and that’s not always a bad thing. You have big, altruistic dreams and are at the forefront of making these a reality, which is why Brussels is where you should travel next. More or less the capital of the European Union, Brussels is a hub for change, too, as it’s home to the Parlamentarium, which is a museum that walks visitors through the formation of the European Union. Not only do you get a better idea of how European government and politics works, but you can savor a juicy steak with a flute of champagne.

Enneagram Type 9 // Los Angeles

If you’re a 9 and just want everyone to get along, then Los Angeles is the spot for you. One friend wants to swim, the other wants to hike? No problem. In Los Angeles, you can hike at the Griffith Observatory and swim in the Pacific. Your dad wants to explore a city, your mom just wants to bum? No worries. This West Coast destination has both a bustling metropolis as well as peaceful escapes.
