My Top 10 of Destin, Florida

Nothing’s worse than planning a vacation to a fabulous location but not knowing exactly what to do in that destination.  Well, there’s always the beach…  Okay, yeah, but your week should be more than just building sandcastles every day.  To combat that paralyzing thought of Oh-my-gosh-what-are-we-going-to-do-and-where-are-we-going-to-rent-it, here’s a top 10 list for Destin, Florida.  Posts to follow with more specific recommendations and suggestions.

1. Visiting Crab Island

Although not an actual island any longer, Crab Island is basically a waist-deep sandbar in the middle of the ocean. I had the best time floating in the water, paddle boarding and catching some rays. They even have a swim-up restaurant. We rented a pontoon to make it to this sandbar.

2. Paddle boarding

I cannot recommend paddle boarding enough. It was helpful that we did this on Crab Island, where the waves were minimal. Paddle boarding is a great workout and definitely something to add to your Destin bucket list.

3. Parasailing over the Gulf

Y’all. By far, one of the coolest things I’ve done in life. It may be a bigger price tag than other activities, but it is every bit as wonderful as it sounds. If one of your travel values is experiential activities, this is worth the money. Not sure what your travel values are? 4. Eating amazing Irish potato skins at McGuire’s

Dollar bills hanging from the ceiling? This Irish pub boasts rich character and savory bites. I highly recommend the Irish potato skins, which add a twist on this classic.

5. Shopping at Harborwalk Village

You’ve been to malls before, but Harborwalk Village is another ball game. Shops, restaurants, fireworks, beach views — no matter your itinerary or interests, Harborwalk Village is worth a stop or two.

6. Seeing dolphins on a sunset cruise

Destin has so much to offer in the way of getting up close and personal with nature. Add a sunset cruise to your trip to get a good look at dolphins.

7. Good old plain beachin’

Check to see if your condo or hotel offers access to a private beach.  Or take a look here to find some public ones.Don’t forget your sunscreen!

8. Riding on a pontoon (and seeing some sweet celeb homes!)

One of the best ways to take in the views and get ocean time is by renting a pontoon. It gives you the space and autonomy to explore the water and is cooler than just sitting on the beach.

9. Holding baby alligators at Fudpucker’s

Where else can you hold a baby alligator? Get a close look at the local fauna at Fudpucker’s and see lots of baby alligators crawling around. Don’t worry, it’s plenty safe!

10. Shopping at Silver Sands Premium Outlets

If you’re looking to shop till you drop, this outlet mall is the place to be. While Harborwalk Village has more of a boutique, beach feel, Silver Sands has bigger name stores.
